Metro Summer Shutdown 2019

Slugging is another commuter option!

Starting Saturday, May 25, 2019 through Sunday, September 8, 2019 the six Blue and Yellow line stations south of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will be closed for full platform reconstruction. It is advised commuters add at least 30 minutes to their commute times during the shutdown. Commuters will have access to free shuttles, buses and other mobility services during this shutdown.

WHY SLUGGING?
About 29,000 commuters will be affected during this shutdown. Metro says, more than one third of the affected commuters are expected to drive. Sluglines assist those drivers to fill up the empty seats and cruise on I-395 and Washington Street HOV-3 lanes.

HOW DOES SLUGLINES WORK?
Slugging aka., casual carpooling is a unique form of commuting popular along I-95 and I-66 corridor. Sluglines assists drivers by reaching the three person HOV-3 requirement and passengers in getting a free ride. Drivers and riders volunteer to ride together on fast HOV lanes at their own wish.
